mote and your privacy
mote has no account, no ads and no analytics
its maker runs no server and never sees anything about you
where you are
mote asks for your location to show the sky over you
it sends that place, rounded to about a kilometre, to apple’s weather service to fetch the forecast, and to apple to learn the name of your town
if you say no, mote shows the sky over the city your time zone is named for
if you pick a place for a widget, what you type is sent to apple maps to find it
this website
to show the sky over you, this site reads roughly where you are from your internet address
it sends that place, rounded to about 10 kilometres, to apple’s weather service, and keeps nothing
a cookie holds only whether the sun is up there, so the page opens in day or night
what stays on your phone
the last place mote read a sky for, the last forecast, and whether you have seen how to use it
deleting mote deletes them
